The main character of the first book is a necromancer who gets a job with a prestigious firm (magic users are all sort of necromancers, by one measure or another) that involves discovering why a city's god died, and bring him back (well, something of power in the same general shape) when the time comes. It's a fantasy world best described as "contemporary," where the realization that humans can interact directly with the power of faith the gods feed on/are made of led to wars between the gods and beings now known as the Deathless Kings. Every book is about a different person (well, except when a book has a cameo or returns to an earlier setting like the newest one does). It's fantasy Oceans 11 in a modernist fantasy setting, starring a female main character who actually feels smart (and was smarter than me as a reader in at least two cases). The Palace Job by Patrick Weekes, and the other two books in the trilogy. In The Aqua-Net Diaries, Niven takes readers through her adolescent years in full, glorious-and hilarious-detail, sharing awkward moments from the first day of school to driver's ed to her first love against a backdrop of bad 1980s fashion and big hair. It also has only one high school with 2,500 students, and for many of the students and the townspeople, it is the center of the universe. Richmond, Indiana, is a place where people know their neighbors and go to church on Sundays. Her first two books, The Ice Master and Ada Blackjack, relayed the tales of deadly and dramatic Arctic adventures, but now she tells a survival tale of a different kind-her own thrilling, excruciating, and utterly unforgettable adventure in a midwestern high school during the 1980s. Her memoir, The Aqua-Net Diaries: Big Hair, Big Dreams, Small Town, was published in February 2010 by Gallery Books, a division of Simon & Schuster, and was optioned by Warner Bros. Jennifer Niven tackles her most harrowing expedition of all: high school. 6/30/2023 0 Comments The quiet american novelHe even uses opium to achieve a state of complete impassiveness about the world and everything around him. Watching people of all shapes and colors go about their normal lives, Fowler does nothing himself, but simply watches. He often likes to sit across the street form the milk-bar and just observe. Fowler is a “reporter,” as opposed to a “correspondent,” for he reports what he sees and “ no action” (20). Living in an extremely controversial era in the middle of all the action, Fowler insists on remaining “not involved” (20). Fowler is a British journalist who has been working in Vietnam for several years. Green’s use of Fowler as an unstable narrator effectively depicts the complexity of human motive and how difficult it is to be honest, even to oneself. It is not until after this climax that Fowler finally realizes and admits to himself that he cannot simply remain aloof his entire life. As the story progresses he is eventually gives into the desire to take action and get involved. From the beginning, Fowler proclaims that he is objective. He chooses Thomas Fowler as the protagonist to tell the story from a biased point of view. The Quiet American In The Quiet American Grahm Green writes of a complex love triangle taking place in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. |
